Cloudskipper Airship

The Cloudskipper is a medium-sized airship for Create Aeronautics. I iterated on the design repeatedly to create my ideal survival-mode friendly exploration vessel.

I packed so much into this creation. It features:

• Dynamic throttle control! One single throttle controls how fast you go, AND whether you go forward or backwards. Simply put:

  • 9-15: Forwards

  • 8: Neutral

  • 1-7: Reverse

  • If your throttle is set >12 or <4, the propellers will demand more stress than the steam engines can provide without fuel. However, if you put charcoal in the vault below deck, a mechanical arm will automatically feed the blaze burners to increase stress capacity when throttled to these speeds. When the throttle is between 4 and 12, the mechanical arm will be disabled, conserving fuel.

• A 3x3x5 vault with an input chest and a blaze burner stock keeper that can be used to retrieve items.

• Two level 2 boilers, fueled by a mechanical arm. Simply put charcoal in the vault!

• Automatic clutch to disable propellers in the event of overstress, or reenable them once the steam engines pick up speed after being fueled.

• A convenient hand-crank for priming the steam engines, located under a trap door directly in front of the steering wheel.

• A big enough balloon to ascend to Y=275ish.

• A top speed of over 13 m/s.

• Navigation table for auto-steering.

• Cozy sleeping quarters.

• Way too much redstone hidden up in the balloon.
