Smooth Garage Door

Instructions:

The door will spawn with minecarts in it if you paste the schematic, however they will be empty. Assemble 6 minecart contraptions like the one that comes with it (8 wide single layer of stairs) and load them onto the top rail.

Important: Make sure the Cart assembler is set to LOCK ROTATION!

The schematic loads with the door in the open state which makes it easier to set up since you don't have to push the carts down the chute.

On the left side, you will see an apparatus with 2 chests connected by a fan and chute. Completely fill the top chest with non-stackable items like swords. This is the system which allows the door to close smoothly instead of letting the layers fall in one at a time.

Finally, set a redstone input like a button to a redstone link (or use a linked controller) set to channels: 1 - redstone torch, 2 - quartz stairs. When pulsed with a redstone signal, it toggles between sending opening and closing commands. (If you'd like to change the channel, feel free to do so. There is a redstone link set to receive mode next to the creative engines on the same channel; change it to whatever you want.) If you wish, you may also send open/close commands separately on channels: 1 - redstone torch, 2 - lantern / 1 - redstone torch, 2 - soul lantern respectively.
