Semi-Automatic Assembler for Precision Mechanisms (MK1)
--Highlights:
Ultra-compact: the whole machine fits in a 4x4x4 box and sits flush against a wall.
Built-in recycler: recyclable byproducts from failed assemblies are returned to the assembly line instead of ending up in a junk chest.
Single input/output chest: feed it and collect from the same place.
Rate control: a Threshold Switch prevents the Incomplete Precision Mechanism overflow.
Moderate power draw: 10,752 SU at 256 RPM.
--Overview:
The sequenced assembly of precision mechanisms is only successful about 80% of the time. As a result, most auto-assembly lines produce a continuous stream of half-finished byproducts that end up in a junk chest. This build captures recyclable byproducts and returns them directly to the assembly line, all while remaining discreet enough to fit flush against a wall.
--Main Process:
A Gold Ingot is input into the system.
It is pressed into a Golden Sheet by a Mechanical Press.
The item continues through the rest of the sequenced assembly, where Deployers stocked with Cogwheels, Large Cogwheels, and Iron Nuggets handle the remaining steps.
The finished product emerges at the other end as a Precision Mechanism.
--Byproduct Recycling Loops:
Raw Gold: Bulk processed by the Encased Fan into Gold Nuggets, which are then dropped into a Basin and pressed back into Gold Ingots, rejoining the main line from the start.
Iron Ingots: Filtered off and routed to a Mechanical Crafter that converts them back into Iron Nuggets, which are fed directly back into the system.
Andesite Alloy: Sent to the Mechanical Saw, where it is cut into Shafts. These are then passed to the Mixer along with Planks to be recrafted into Large Cogwheels.
Gold Nuggets, Cogwheels, and Golden Sheets: Any byproducts that already exist in a usable form are funnelled straight back into the loop without additional processing.
*Items that cannot be recycled are directed to the input/output chest next to the finished Precision Mechanisms. Simply sweep the chest periodically.
--Inputs:
The input/output chest accepts: Incomplete Precision Mechanism, Gold (Ingots, Nuggets, Sheets), Cogwheels, Large Cogwheels, Iron Nuggets, and any type of Planks (used by the Andesite Alloy and Shaft recycling loops).
As a semi-automatic machine, MK1 does not craft its own Cogwheels, Large Cogwheels, or Iron Nuggets from raw materials. Keep the Deployers stocked. For a fully automatic version, see MK2.
--Power Requirements:
The assembler draws 10,752 SU at maximum speed (256 RPM). It's important to ensure your kinetic network has adequate capacity before making a connection. Input power is versatile; just make sure it spins in the correct direction.
--Inside the Box:
1 Mechanical Arm
2 Mechanical Presses (Golden Sheet pressing and Gold Nugget to Ingot pressing)
1 Mechanical Saw (Andesite Alloy to Shaft conversion)
1 Mechanical Mixer (Shaft + Planks to Large Cogwheel crafting)
1 Encased Fan (to bulk-splash Raw Gold into Nuggets)
1 Mechanical Crafter (Iron Ingot to Nugget recycling)
3 Deployers
3 Basins
3 Depots
2 Smart Chutes
1 Threshold Switch (controls input rate)
Item Vaults for bulk buffer storage
Brass and Andesite Belt Funnels for sorting and filtering
A short internal belt loop
Encased Chain Drives to route power across axes without compromising the compact design
--Build Notes:
Remember to waterlog the brass funnel located under the Encased Fan for proper functionality.
Due to the limited space, alignment is essential. It is recommended to place the build within a flat 4x4 area and connect the kinetic power.
If you rotate the machine, be sure to replace the Vertical Gearbox with a Shaft if the Encased Fan is blowing in the wrong direction.
Double-check the filters in the Deployers (Cogwheel, Large Cogwheel, Iron Nugget) and Brass Funnels before running the system live.
Updates:
Aug 9, 2026 (Last update): [CHECK: dates]
Added: a Threshold Switch to control the Smart Chute's input rate, preventing overflow of the Incomplete Precision Mechanism.
Modification: now uses a Smart Chute for Planks output.
Modification: fine-tuned filters.
New version name: compact_precision_assembler_mk1r.nbt (r stands for release). Please use this version.
Aug 6, 2026:
Bug fix: resolved issues that caused occasional clogging. If you experienced clogging, please use compact_precision_assembler_mk1f.nbt (f stands for fixed).
Modification [old Gold & Planks output]: introduced a Smart Chute to directly output Gold Ingots into the Vault.
Modification [old Gold & Planks output]: replaced the Basin with a Depot and changed the filter to allow Planks only.
MK1 vs MK2:
MK1 (this build): 4x4x4, semi-automatic, 10,752 SU at 256 RPM. Best when space is tight.
MK2: 5x5x4, fully automatic with raw-material input only, 20,992 SU at 256 RPM. Link: MK2
Version Information:
This is MK1, the first published version. Feedback and stress-test reports are welcome.
