Welcome to the Lisan Al Gaib, a survival ready all electric scout aircraft that uses minimal add ons to achieve fast, stable flight while mimicking the flight appearance of an actual ornithopter. Using 2 banks of Crafts & Additions Accumulators, the Lisan Al Gaib is capable of ~45 minutes of continuous flight and uses an intuitive WASD control scheme.
A minimally modified GearWorks SMP compatible variant is also available. Thanks to @Auto from the GearWorks Discord for the inspiration.
=== Usage Instructions ===
Assembly
To build the Lisan Al Gaib, first print the schematic without applying any rotation or mirroring. Then verify the following:
The main craft body is fully encased in Honey Glue (excluding the 6-way gearboxes & wings).
The wings are all individually fully encased in Slime Glue, including their respective Gyroscopic Propeller Bearings.
Please apply the glues if they failed to print for you.
Once verified, first assemble the main body using the provided contraption assembler.
Click on the empty swivel bearings on either side of the main body to activate them, and use to provided valve handles to turn the swivel bearing exactly 45 degrees. If you mess up, simply reset the bearing and try again. Break the handle & extra cog once done.
BEFORE THIS NEXT STEP, IT IS RECOMMENDED TO TEMPORARILY LOCK THE CRAFT USING THE PHYSICS STAFF OR TIE IT DOWN USING ROPE CONNECTORS IN CASE OF PHYSICS GLITCHES
Once the swivel bearings have been rotated, assemble the provided 6-way gearboxes using contraption assemblers, and glue them via their top or bottom faces (sides have extra lines) using slime balls to the activated swivel bearings. When done correctly, each side of the main body should have a 6 way gearbox attached to its swivel bearing, with its sides pointed out at 45 degrees from the body.
Then, assemble each wing and glue the bottom of their propeller bearings to the exposed sides of the 6 way gearboxes. When done correctly, each side should have 2 wings at 90 degrees from each other.
The Lisan Al Gaib is now fully assembled
Pre-check Before First Flight
Using the "Space" key via the Linked Typewriter or directly accessing the toggle latch on top of the craft, disable the electric motors before you charge the accumulators (the latch is ACTIVE to disable the motors). The charging connectors are at the bottom of the craft, ensure the connectors are set to "push" mode.
Check that the electric motors are set correctly, they should all be set to 256 RPM at opposing rotations to their neighbours both next to and across from them. If they are not set correctly, they will simply pop off when motors are activated. It may be difficult to access the config panels of the motors. It is recommended to use a dummy motor to configure the rotations, and copy to the onboard motors using a clipboard.
Once the motors are configured and system charged. Hold "Left Control" for some time via the Linked Typewriter to increase the wing brakes to maximum, then enable the motors using "Space". You will know it is working when you are able to move the wings using WASD.
Then, gently tap "Left Shift" to ease off of the wing brakes until they begin to rotate very slowly. While the wings are still spinning, note their rotations to adjust the propeller bearing rotations as needed. They should all be set to "pull" in their respective rotation. I.e. CW spin will be set to "pull while CW" and CWW spin will be set to "push while CW".
Controls
After all assembly and pre-checks are completed, the Lisan Al Gaib is ready for flight and no further pre-checks will be needed on future flights.
You can toggle the electric motors with SPACE to save energy when parked.
Use standard WASD control to move the craft, a heavier pitch forward/backward will let you move faster at the cost of altitude.
Use LEFT SHIFT and LEFT CONTROL to increase or decrease propeller brake. At full throttle, the Lisan Al Gaib will happily fly to world height limit.
